Next Gen: Emerging Perspective Showcase, Part 1

Unspeakable Records is the source for this eclectic showcase of femme indie artists curated by beatmaker “Dot” aka Kate Ellwanger (Chapman ’13), the progressive label’s founder. This NextGen Musco event features a unique vibe that ranges from soul, electronic, R&B, and world music. Discover the next wave of female-identifying music innovators as Dot is joined by jazz-infused vocalist Amy D, and dance DJ Bianca Oblivion. 

Unspeakable Records

Unspeakable Records is an artist-owned production company that offers services in recording engineering, production, mixing/mastering, sync licensing and artist development. Established in 2014, they originally served as an independent record label for female-identifying artists but later expanded to include innovative musicians of all gender identities, backgrounds, styles and genres.

Using forward-thinking music production techniques, engineering services and educational programs, the company strives to maintain an ethical and supportive community for artists and pave the way to a more inclusive industry.

Unspeakable Records has over 50 releases in their catalogue, been a part of hundreds of live events and mentored thousands of artists through their artist development programs.

Dot / Kate Ellwanger

Kate Ellwanger, known by the alias Dot, is a producer, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist inspired by electronic, indie rock and R&B music. She is the founder of Unspeakable Records, part of LA beat collective Team Supreme, a voting member of The Recording Academy and a contributor to MusiCares.    

Ellwanger has produced artists including SZA (TDE) and Teri GenderBender (Le Butcherettes, Bosnian Rainbows) and writes music for film/TV and commercials with clients including Nike, MTV, OWN and Laura Mercier.

Ellwanger holds a B.A. in Music from Hall-Musco Conservatory of Music at Chapman University, and a Master’s Degree in Music Production, Technology, and Innovation from Berklee College of Music. She has taught music production and composition at critically-acclaimed institutions including The Los Angeles Recording School, Dubspot, Point Blank and Garnish.   

Amy D.

Amy D. is a San Francisco Bay Area-based vocalist and songwriter influenced by jazz, soul, R&B and world music. Her debut album "Like You," written by Amy D and co-produced with producer/keyboardist Mike Tiger (Goa pele, Lalah Hathaway), is about self-empowerment through the finding of one’s own authentic voice. San Jose Mercury News has called her “an accomplished singer who delivers original material with swinging conviction.”

Bianca Oblivion

Bianca Oblivion is a Los Angeles-based music producer and DJ. Channeling a lifelong love for dance music, she has played festivals, hosted radio shows and become a sought-after DJ at the hottest parties in LA and other cities. She recently released the baile-funk track “Bumbum Pra Cá,” as well as other original tracks and remixes.
