Join an in-depth conversation between dance-makers and educators Dwight Rhoden (Complexions Contemporary Ballet) and Ido Tadmor (Chapman University Presidential Fellow in Dance). Both artists will discuss Complexions, professional partnerships and creating new work. Rhoden and Tadmor will share excerpts of repertory and take questions from the virtual audience. Julianne O’Brien, Chair of the Department of Dance at Chapman University, will also join the conversation to discuss both Rhoden and Tadmor’s engagement with the program.

Dwight Rhoden (Director, Choreographer) has established a remarkably wide- ranging career, earning distinction from The New York Times as “one of the most sought out choreographers of the day.” He is founding artistic director and resident choreographer of Complexions Contemporary Ballet. Born in Dayton, Ohio, he performed with Dayton Contemporary Dance Company, Les Ballets Jazz De Montréal and as a principal dancer with Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. He has choreographed for New York City Ballet, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Aspen Santa Fe Ballet, BalletMet, Colorado Ballet, Dance Theatre of Harlem, Dayton Contemporary Dance Company, The Joffrey Ballet, Miami City Ballet, Pennsylvania Ballet, Philadanco, Pittsburgh Ballet Theater, San Francisco Ballet,  The Washington Ballet, Ballet Nice Mediterranean, Rome Opera Ballet, and Tulsa Ballet, among others. Rhoden has directed and choreographed for television, film, and theater, including So You Think You Can Dance, Cirque Du Soleil, world tours for Prince and Lenny Kravitz, and the feature film One Last Dance. Rhoden was nominated for a Benois de la Danse Award for his The Great Gatsby for the Mariinsky Ballet. He’s been artist in residence at USC Kaufman, Boston Conservatory, The Juilliard School, New York University, and Southern Methodist University. Honors include a New York Foundation for the Arts award, induction in the NYFA Hall of Fame, the Choo-San Goh Award for Choreography, and an Honorary Doctorate from Boston Conservatory. 

Ido Tadmor is an internationally acclaimed dancer-choreographer who has performed with legendary companies Bat Dor, Bat Sheva, Lar Luvovitch, and Complexions. Ido is the 2011 winner of the highly respected Landau Prize in Israel for life achievement, and has represented the state of Israel around the world as the country’s Ambassador of Dance for more than three decades, touring to Cyprus, Paris, Germany, Croatia, Brazil, California, Hong Kong, Netherlands, Poland, Korea, Angola, Poland, Senegal, and Lithuania. He has been named one of the top ten dancers in modern dance by the Vienna Committee and has worked with the National State Ballet of Turkey, the Bolshoi, the Israeli Ballet, the Polish National Ballet, The Dance Academy in Rome, and Artemis in Amsterdam, among many others.
