Musco Center

Flor de Toloache
New York City’s first all-women mariachi, Latin Grammy-nominated Flor de Toloache offers a fresh and versatile take on traditional Mexican music. Drawing their name from the legendary toloache flower used in Mexico as a love potion, these Latin Grammy nominees cast a spell over their audiences with their enchanting singing, grace, and beauty. They bring Mexican traditions to the present while adding a feminine and forward-thinking touch to mariachi.

Las Cafeteras
Las Cafeteras are children of immigrants remixing roots music and sharing their stories with their “uniquely Angeleno mishmash of beat music, cumbria and rock…Live, they’re magnetic” (Los Angeles Times). The band owes its signature sound to unique instrumentation, including jarandas, a requinto, a donkey jawbone, a marimbol (West African bass instrument), and a wooden platform called the tamira, used to dance Zapateado.

Son Rompe Pera (Dance Party)
Sunday, June 4, 2023
6:30 p.m.- 8:00 p.m.
Aitken Arts Plaza

Kings of cumbia punk, Mexico City’s Son Rompe Pera breathe new life into the traditional Mexican marimba, marrying its familiar sound with punk and psychobilly. They learned marimba alongside their father as kids and fell in love with rock music as teenagers – now, they command enormous dance floors with their music. Having released their debut LP just as the Covid-19 pandemic began, they grew their fanbase online, and, post-pandemic, have toured the United States twice with luminaries like PANTEON ROCOCO and are slated for many international festivals in the coming year.
