Musco Center presents:
Kishi Bashi in Concert
THIS EVENT IS IN THE PAST
Saturday, October 23, 2021 | 7:30 p.m.
Internationally revered violinist, singer-songwriter and artist activist, Kishi Bashi makes a magnificent return to the Musco stage.
The highly anticipated concert return of Kishi Bashi will feature the virtuoso violinist, composer and singer accompanied by a string trio, electric banjo player Mike "Tall Tall Trees" Savino, and a 18-piece side-by-side string ensemble comprised of professional musicians and Chapman string students.
They will perform music from his upcoming Emigrant EP as well as his 2019 album, Omoiyari (a Japanese word for the idea of creating compassion toward other people by thinking about them). Other recent work that may be performed includes the uplifting orchestral score of Stillwater, the Apple-Plus children’s series, which he composed with Toby Chu and released as an album in 2020.
About Kishi Bashi
Kishi Bashi is the pseudonym of Kaoru Ishibashi, a Seattle-born artist who grew up in Norfolk, Virginia, the son of professors at Old Dominion University. In 1994 he entered Berklee College of Music to study film scoring and violin.
Now an internationally revered violinist, Ishibashi records and tours the world with a diverse range of artists including Regina Spektor, Sondre Lerche, and the indie rock band of Montreal, which like him is now based in Athens, Georgia. He was the singer and founding member of the New York electronic rock outfit Jupiter One before launching a solo recording and performing career. Kishi Bashi, whose Musco Center appearances in recent years have earned him a devoted following, is a favorite of NPR's Tiny Desk Concert program. Bob Boilen of NPR's "All Songs Considered" said that out of some 1,300 songs previewed for All Songs Considered one year, Kishi Bashi was the one musician "we all agreed was a must-see at SXSW: He didn't disappoint."
About Tall Tall Trees
Tall Tall Trees is the pseudonym of Mike Savino, a songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who self-records and produces his own music. While Savino initially moved to New York as an aspiring bassist, he instead turned to the banjo and wrote his own songs for his eponymous 2009 debut album Tall Tall Trees. Since then, Savino has toured prolifically, bringing his psychedelic electric banjo music to the world while keeping audiences riveted with his loop-based one-man show
