Join Korean-American composer, vocalist, and mixed-media innovator Bora Yoon as she conjures audiovisual soundscapes. Classically trained and steeped in a first love of choral music, Yoon creates immersive storytelling composed of digital devices, voice, and instruments from a variety of cultures and centuries. 

Described by the New York Times as “mesmerizing” and by KoreAm Journal as “totally unique... unexpected,” Yoon’s work resonates with a diverse range of genres and communities. Her ever-evolving experiments with technology and art has resulted in the creation of spacial sound environments and experiences with music for dance, theatre, opera, multimedia happenings and art galleries. 

MORE ABOUT THE ARTIST
 
Bora Yoon is an experimental electroacustic composer and performer known for her use of unconventional instruments and sensory interdisciplinary storytelling through sound, noise, gesture, and music. Yoon’s immersive and acclaimed staged multimedia work reflects Buddhist philosophies of cycles and orbits as well as issues of Korean-American identity. 

Her works have been presented by Lincoln Center, Brooklyn Academy of Music, TED, the Nam June Paik Art Center (Korea), Festival of World Cultures (Poland), Park Avenue Armory, MADE Festival (Sweden) and Walker Art Center, and universities around the world. Her music has been awarded by the New York Foundation for the Arts, Asian American Arts Alliance, Billboard, BMI, and the Arion Foundation; published by SubRosa, Innova, Swirl Records, and the Journal of Popular Noise.
Yoon is a TED fellow, and a doctoral candidate in music composition and the interdisciplinary humanities at Princeton University.
