La Santa Cecilia

THIS EVENT IS IN THE PAST

NEW DATE! Saturday, May 28, 2022 | Gates: 3:30 PM | Opener: 4:45 PM | Headliner: 6:00 PM

Opener Jarabe Mexicano starts at 4:45 PM

Jarabe Mexicano invites audiences on a joyride through a versatile songbook of Mexican Folk as well as Rock & Roll, Tex-Mex, Latin Rock, and Reggae-Cumbia. Performing on stringed folk instruments accompanied by lively percussion, Jarabe’s dramatic, harmonized vocals in Spanish and English have gained them admiration from audiences across the country.

La Santa Cecilia , named after the Roman Catholic patron saint of music, takes inspiration from music around the world, creating their modern Latin rock sound by mixing together cumbia, bossa-nova, rumba, bolero, tango, jazz and klezmer music. Accordionist and requinto player Jose ‘Pepe’ Carlos, bassist Alex Bendaña, percussionist Miguel ‘Oso’ Ramirez, and vocalist ‘La Marisoul’ write songs about love and loss, which resonate with their fans, especially the bicultural community in the United States that appreciates the Latin American influences in their sound.

Feel free to bring chairs, blankets, and a picnic. No umbrellas are allowed. No outside alcohol allowed. A beer garden will be open during the event.

Please visit CU Safely Back for the latest COVID-19 protocols for Chapman visitors.
