Musco Center for the Arts Presents
Internationally renowned Violinist and
Actress in Award-Winning HBO Series Treme
ORANGE, Calif. – Musco Center for the Arts at Chapman University presents Lucia Micarelli on October 4 at 7:30pm, the first offering of classical crossover in the 2018-19 season.
Heralded as “a violinist of heart-melting talent” by The Wall Street Journal, Lucia Micarelli is a powerhouse musician and actress praised for her eclectic style and high profile collaborations. Lucia Micarelli has performed with global superstars including Josh Groban, Barbra Streisand, Jethro Tull, and the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, and is known for her role on HBO’s critically acclaimed television series, “Treme.” The master violinist also toured extensively with trumpeter and composer, Chris Botti, and their impassioned “Emmanuel” PBS duet has garnered over 8 million views on YouTube. After releasing her own PBS special earlier this year, Lucia Micarelli continues to blaze a path for classical crossover while earning a reputation as a rock star violinist.
Born in Queens, New York, Lucia Micarelli began playing violin at the age of three and was accepted into the Juilliard School of Music’s Pre-College Division by age 11, where she studied with prominent teacher Dorothy DeLay. At the age of 17, Micarelli left Juilliard to attend the Manhattan School of Music and studied with Israeli-American violinist Pinchas Zukerman. Lucia Micarelli has released two major label solo albums: 2004’s Music from a Farther Room and 2006’s Interlude, both of which show her effortless transition between pop, tango, jazz, rock and classical selections.
“Lucia Micarelli brings an extensive array of influences to the Musco stage,” said Richard T. Bryant, Musco Center executive director. “She’s an emotionally captivating and technically superior musician whose impeccable talent will resonate throughout Musco’s award-winning concert hall.”
